Who we are

Before discovering pottery, I was working full time as a steamfitter. During that time, I had a hobby of hand-carving wooden spoons. One day, I had a simple thought; “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a bowl to go with my spoons?” In 2014, I laid down my spoons and was immersed in the world of pottery. While continuing to work as a steamfitter, I began exploring pottery part-time, allowing me to develop my skills and deepen my love for the craft.

That journey eventually led me to purchase Brown’s Pottery in 2022, a studio that had been in business for 12 years. I spent several years honing my skills with the Browns before evolving the studio into what it is now: Peace and Mud Pottery Studio.

Transitioning from a part-time potter, focused on making my own pieces, to someone who holds space for others has been a true pleasure. I was amazed at how seamlessly the precision and craftsmanship required in steamfitting translated into working with clay. The functional, linear side of my brain now joyfully interacts with its creative counterpart, and I’m excited to share that journey with others.

At Peace and Mud, I’ve created a welcoming environment for pottery enthusiasts of all levels and it’s blossomed into a wonderful community. Whether you’re interested in throwing on the wheel, hand-building, or trying your hand at Raku firing, we have everything you need to bring your clay dreams to life. The St. Augustine pottery community is like a family to me, and I invite you to stop by and say hello.

I fell in love with pottery the moment I stepped into the studio and got my hands delightfully messy! What started as a fun way to try something new quickly turned into a true passion that lights me up every single day. I was looking for my “thing” and wow, did I find it! Clay has this incredible ability to bring your imagination to life, whether you’re creating works of art, functional pieces you use every day, or a blend of both. The possibilities are endless.

I’m so grateful to Rick for teaching me everything I know and for choosing me to become his partner in the studio. His patience, enthusiasm, and generous spirit made all the difference, and I absolutely adore creating new things and growing this studio together with him.

I’m thrilled to help create a warm, welcoming space where everyone feels encouraged to experiment, make mistakes, and grow. Whether I’m throwing pots, teaching classes, chatting with members, or dreaming up new studio adventures, I’m always learning right alongside you.

Pottery has taught me that it’s never too late to try something new, and that sometimes “imperfect” pieces can turn into our most favorite, beautiful pieces of art. I believe the best way to learn is to just have fun and play! And I have to admit, getting muddy is just plain fun! I’m so grateful to share this joyful, creative journey with our amazing community.

If you’re looking for a new hobby (or just a little more joy in your life), reach out and let me give you a lesson! Who know’s it might just turn into the next chapter in your story.
