Who we are
Before discovering pottery, I was working full time as a steamfitter. During that time, I had a hobby of hand-carving wooden spoons. One day, I had a simple thought; “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a bowl to go with my spoons?” In 2014, I laid down my spoons and was immersed in the world of pottery. While continuing to work as a steamfitter, I began exploring pottery part-time, allowing me to develop my skills and deepen my love for the craft.
That journey eventually led me to purchase Brown’s Pottery in 2022, a studio that had been in business for 12 years. I spent several years honing my skills with the Browns before evolving the studio into what it is now: Peace and Mud Pottery Studio.
Transitioning from a part-time potter, focused on making my own pieces, to someone who holds space for others has been a true pleasure. I was amazed at how seamlessly the precision and craftsmanship required in steamfitting translated into working with clay. The functional, linear side of my brain now joyfully interacts with its creative counterpart, and I’m excited to share that journey with others.
At Peace and Mud, I’ve created a welcoming environment for pottery enthusiasts of all levels and it’s blossomed into a wonderful community. Whether you’re interested in throwing on the wheel, hand-building, or trying your hand at Raku firing, we have everything you need to bring your clay dreams to life. The St. Augustine pottery community is like a family to me, and I invite you to stop by and say hello.

Muddy Sidekick
I was introduced to pottery by taking a taster session with a friend, taught by Rick. His enthusiasm for the craft instantly drew me in and pottery quickly became a true passion of mine. Whether I’m assisting with the daily tasks around the studio, leading taster sessions, or managing our online platforms, I’m always eager to learn and grow. Getting muddy is just plain fun! My current favorite projects include hand-built octopi, cauldrons on the wheel, and experimenting with underglaze designs.
Rick has been an incredible teacher and friend, guiding me through the intricate art of pottery with patience and expertise. I’m immensely thankful for this community-it truly feels like home. Being a part of this studio is more than just work, it’s a place where creativity thrives, friendships are formed, and every day offers a new opportunity to learn.
